This is in reference to a letter on shortage of cat food in superstores and shopping malls in the Kingdom. I really thank the writer for bringing the matter to the front. I had also voiced my concern over the issue but no action has so far been taken by the authorities.

Shortage of cat food has been going on for some time yet we do not know reason for it. It seems that newspapers are also not interested to find out the reason and take it up with the authorities.

Meanwhile poor cats who really depend on people like us for food are starving and dying. Table scraps are not enough to feed them all. Our personal pets are suffering too. Just as we send support to the needy and the hungry we also feed the animals. It seems the only pet food you can get is for dogs, which we do not keep in accordance with the Islamic teachings.

Therefore, I request Arab News to please find out the reason for the shortage of cat food and bring the matter up with the concerned government department. — A cat lover, Jeddah
