This is in response to the column “Scourge of communalism and voices of sanity in India” by Aijaz Zaka Syed. Press Council Chairman Justice Markandey Katju’s argument that injustice, discrimination and poverty are the main causes of terrorism is ill-founded as all the terrorists are highly educated, rich, employed and well established, not facing discrimination.

People like Katju have not done their homework on terrorism. And another point I wanted to make is that the people killed during the Gujarat riots were less than 1,000, that is highly deplorable. — Nirode Mohanty, California
