Thanks to Arab News for a detailed interview of Pakistan’s top scientist Dr. Samar Mubarakmand. (‘Islamabad needs good governance,’ April 12). The scientist rightly said that the nuclear program has averted the war with India on several occasions.

However it is tragic to note that the military and political governments in the past two decades worked for vested interest instead of taking measures for exploration of Thar coal and Recodec mines which would not only have solved energy crisis, but also saved Pakistan from borrowing heavy loans from IMF and USA.

However, I don’t agree with him that “India should provide fund” for the rehabilitation of stranded citizens in Pakistan since it is our own duty to take care of our citizens.

If we can take care of 4 million refugees for the sake of brotherly relationship, then the stranded citizens in Bangladesh are our own and their sacrifices are numerous for the country. — Mohammed Aslam Siddiqui, By email
