I think the two-year-old Syrian crisis is reaching its climax with world powers readying its forces for an imminent strike against the Syria regime. The use of chemical weapons on innocent civilians in Syria has sparked global outrage, forcing the US and other Western governments to act. There are opinions that these world powers should avoid the UN for the legitimacy of its action, as there is a deadlock with Russia and China backing the Assad regime to the hilt. But I think any military intervention circumventing the United Nations should not considered. It is true that the chemical weapons have been used. But on what basis is the US claiming that the Syrian regime has made the attacks? Many questions on the US evidence remain unanswered. How will the US justify its military action without taking the international community on board? The US and all the other major powers of the world should work within the framework of UN to urgently put an end to the Syrian crisis. — Pankaj Singh, by e-mail
