Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy a friendship, which is everlasting and for all seasons, said the outgoing Pakistani Consul General Salik Khan.
He was speaking at a farewell reception, which Pakistan Journalist Forum (PJF) hosted as a farewell to Salik Khan and the outgoing permanent representative of head of chancery and OIC, Imran Siddique.
Underscoring the role played by media in bolstering this relationship, Khan said, “To promote this friendship, the efforts of Pakistani journalists living in the Kingdom have been excellent and highly commendable.”
They always worked to boost Pak-Saudi relations and raised it to a high position, Khan added.
Addressing a large number of Pakistanis gathered on the occasion, the former Pakistani consul general praised the PJF and said that its members worked responsibly and would let him know about difficulties people faced, at proper times.
“I will only ask them to continue with this zeal and commitment,” he said.
Khan said that he felt very fortunate as he had a good company of friends in the Kingdom. He could not have worked without their cooperation. But if any failure or laxity committed on the part of Pakistanis to carry on responsibility efficiently, it must be due to his own omission, and hence he bore responsibility, he said.
Khan said that it is embassy’s responsibility to solve problems, but also it is the responsibility of the community members to provide them accurate information about various problems facing the community, so that they be ready to reach out to the people more effectively and on time.
In his rather short speech earlier, Imran Siddique said that his tenure in the Kingdom was worth to be remembered. He is taking back with him the recollections and thoughts which could never be erased.
Remembering the services rendered by Consul General Salik Khan, PJF President Shahid Naeem said that the CG worked with full devotion during his tenure. Though he is going back, he said, the diplomat “will continue to live in our thoughts.”
The reception was attended by minister coordinator of the consul general and link officer of the Pakistan International School, Sikandar Hayat, Press Consul Sohail Ali Khan and Welfare Consul Tahssenul Haq Haqqi.
