JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on Tuesday presided over a Regional Council meeting, discussing water and transportation projects. The council talked about the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques project for the rehabilitation of Makkah and springs at holy sites. King Abdulaziz University’s Zubaida Spring and Ground Water Rehabilitation Research Unit is executing this project under the governor’s supervision.
They also discussed the council’s project committee report on the implementation of Jeddah’s southern water-drainage line, which is to be executed according to the highest environmental standards.
The council discussed reports on Makkah’s Public Transport project and the water committee’s report. The Makkah springs rehabilitation project includes a study to create a strategic ground water reservoir that would provide emergency water supply to Makkah and the holy sites (in time of emergency). It includes the establishment of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Zubaida Spring Endowments that aims to preserve spring properties, manage and invest in it and increase spending on scientific research to increase its supply and the supply of valleys connected to it.
