Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal is recuperating following a minor surgery he underwent to relieve an intestinal obstruction, the Royal Court said yesterday.
The announcement came a day before meetings by Arab and Gulf Arab foreign ministers in Jeddah to discuss Syria ahead of an emergency Islamic summit in Makkah on Aug. 14-15.
“Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the foreign minister, suffered a minor blockage in the intestines because of adhesions due to a previous surgery,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted a Royal Court statement as saying.
"He underwent minor surgery to break the adhesions. The surgery was successful. He is in a stable condition," the statement added.
Prince Saud has been the Kingdom’s foreign minister since 1975. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Prince Saud's attendance at Arab League and OIC meetings would depend on his doctors' advice.
