"Romanian Post joined the elite of world postal administration"

Romanian Post delegation attended at the beginning of October the 25th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) that took place in Doha, Qatar. The Eastern European postal network fell into industry anonymity in the last decade, since its presidency of the prestigious organization back into 2004.
The delegation was led by Dan Nica, the Romanian Minister of Communication and Information Society. Romanian Post representatives attended the specialized work group commissions and lobbied the hub potential of the Romanian network in Eastern Europe. The upcoming privatization of the organization was also high on the agenda, a number of prestigious postal administrations being interested in engaging the Romanian officials.
Dan Nica, the Romanian Minister of Communication and Information Society, stated: “Doha event is a great opportunity to return to the elite of the world postal administrations. Tougher market conditions and increasing competition from alternative industries in the last years make this congress a very important milestone in our itinerary to the supremacy in our domestic markets and worldwide.”
More than 2,200 delegates from over 192 countries converged to Doha at theUPU's quadrennial meeting. Romanian Post was elected as a member of the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union, having the opportunity to contribute to the new development strategy and international postal regulatory landscape of the next 4 years.
