Inspection units in the Holy Capital Municipality confiscated more than 15 tons of food unfit for human consumption. The food was going to be sold to pilgrims in markets and through street vendors. Efforts of municipality branches resulted in the arrests of 1,300 expatriate street vendors and the confiscation of 30,000 pieces of pots and haberdasheries in Makkah.

Saud bin Abdullah Al-Hazzani, general superviser for branch municipalities in the holy capital, said the level of hygiene in Makkah, especially in the central area, is good. Getting ready for the season started earlier on by preparing field service centers and supporting them with human and automated cadres to offer ideal services for pilgrims, he added. Around 2,000 health supervisors were deployed to support branch municipalities during the Haj season, to combat street vendors and monitor the market’s hygiene.



He said efforts were intensified to inspect commercial centers and food stores, the municipality inspected 4,431 commercial stores and 4,349 food stores during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.

The municipality monitored 1,279 commercial stores and 1,181 food stores that were violation of the rules, and applied the rules and procedures against them, and closed down 310 in violation of food and commercial stores.
