The Riyadh Police Department has ordered two sponsors to pay overdue salaries amounting to SR95,000 to their Indonesian housemaids before they return home on final exit visas.

Police responded to a report they received from the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, said Col. Abdulrahman Al-Juraid, director of a security center for domestic help at the Riyadh Police Department, on Saturday.

One maid had worked for her sponsor for over 12 years and the other for more than three years. Both sponsors sent the maids to their embassy without clearing their dues.

Riyadh Police detained the sponsors until they paid the maids in full. They have also been barred from recruiting foreign housemaids for a period of time specified by labor laws, Al-Juraid said.

The law requires employers to pay workers the agreed monthly salary without delay, and give them a day off each week. Workers are entitled to sick leave and a one-month paid vacation.
