Gulam Mohammed would regret all his life that moment when he decided to have a sip of water while driving. In a span of five days, he has lost both his daughters following an accident the Indian family met with on the Qassim-Riyadh highway.

While 12-year-old Mariam Sana died on the spot in the accident on Wednesday, her younger sister Marwa Hussain, who was critically injured and admitted to Buraidah’s King Fahd Specialist Hospital, breathed her last on Monday, family sources said.

Both girls were studying in Indian International School in Buraidah. Mariam Sana was in seventh grade while Marwa Hussain was studying in third grade.

The family did not bury the remains of Mariam Sana, saying they were waiting for some relatives to join them in Buraidah. However, following Marwa’s death, the family is expected to bury both of them as soon as the legal procedures are completed.

Arrangements have been made for the burial of both sisters in Khaleejia graveyard of Buraidah, family sources said.

Gulam Mohammed, who hails from Mumbai, is working as a sales executive for cosmetic products. The family was returning to Buraidah from Riyadh when he lost control of his van while drinking water.

Gulam’s wife sustained minor injuries while he himself escaped miraculously from the accident.
