The Eastern Region police arrested four persons involved in the theft of SR30 million from vehicles used for cash transfer in Al-Ahsa.

Col. Ziyad Al-Riqaiti, media spokesman for the Eastern Region police, said the four men were apprehended after the arrest of a Saudi cash-transfer truck driver and another person who was with him.

“A few days ago, security agencies arrested a person, who during interrogation confessed to burying the stolen money in a desert area in Bani Tamim Province,” the spokesman said, adding that security men then took the accused to the location where they found the entire amount.

The Eastern Region has witnessed a spate of such incidents of late, and in one case, cash amounting SR13.1 million just disappeared. The police, however, arrested three citizens and an Asian who were involved in the theft.

In another case, SR 12.2 million was stolen from a cash transfer vehicle but the convicts were later arrested.

Al-Riqaiti said that the Eastern Province police had stepped up investigation in cooperation with security agencies in Riyadh and managed to capture all the culprits. Further investigations are still going on, he said.
