The Riyadh Police and the Traffic Department recently carried out a joint crackdown against joyriders, better known as drifters, in several Riyadh quarters.

The crackdown resulted in the arrest of 47 joyriders, nine of whom were arrested during drifting stunts, while 17 were on the wanted list for criminal reasons and six were involved in previous drifting cases. The remaining arrests were for drifting enthusiasts and spectators.

The campaigns, which began at the beginning o March, covered a series of Riyadh neighborhoods, including Shifa, Suwaidi, Fuwwaz, Nasim, Sulai, Rayyan and Ishbailiyah.

Some 41 cars were seized, either from joyriders, spectators, suspected criminals or individuals who have made changes to their cars.
