More than 600 children and their mothers participated with enthusiasm in the World Orphans Day in Najran on Wednesday.

Princess Abir bint Abdullah inaugurated the event at the women’s section of Friends of Orphans Charity Association.

“I will always help and support orphans as my father and mother Princess Hasa bint Tarad Shaln encouraged me and advised me to be kind with orphans and help them. This orphans day celebration is for them, and on this occasion, the love, honor and respect is all for our orphan brothers and sisters,” said the princess.

She said she was pleased with the celebrations at the charity's women’s section established by Prince Mishal bin Abdullah. “I’m happy to be among my family and friends who gave me such an opportunity for doing a good job. I am thankful to my family and friends and charity authority for the hospitality, I am impressed with the work undertaken by Friends of Orphans Charity Association,” she said.

The princess donated SR10 million to the orphanage as a gift from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah that was paid by her son Prince Abdul Aziz bin Fahd bin Turki.

The orphans’ day celebrations included an exhibition of the work done by Saudi productive families of orphans, art work and a cultural program.

Salima Saleh, president of the women’s section of Friends of Orphans Charity Association, welcomed the princess and other dignitaries.

She gave a brief account of the work and activities of the organization in serving the orphans and named the princess as the honorary president of the association.

She said the gathering in the region of Najran was a great opportunity to fulfill social responsibility toward the community.

The program was followed by a presentation on the problems of orphans under the theme “Orphans’ Tears and Joy,” and later the mothers were honored.
