Charities in the Kingdom received SR753 million last year, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs. It said the number of charitable establishments affiliated with the ministry has reached 748 with 83 women’s charities.

Recent reports from the ministry stated that the number of members of these charities exceeded 153,000, while the number of workers reached 16,000. The number of members of the boards exceeded 5,000. The number of female charities supervised by the ministry reached 38, representing 5 percent of the total number of charities in the Kingdom.

The number of Al-Bir charities, which are registered with the ministry stands at 460, while health charities stood at 42, followed by disabled charities with 22, while collective marriage charities reached 20.

Charitable societies licensed by the ministry in Riyadh reached more that 160, while the number of charities in Makkah reached 140, Madinah 47 and Al-Qasim 60.

Recent statistics by the Ministry of Social Affairs show that the volume of spending on these charities exceeded SR753 million, SR625 million went to charities with various specialties and SR128 million were given to women’s charities. The General Directorate for Charities affiliated with the ministry supervises the works of these charities, and offers various help to them, such as post-establishment, annual, and emerging and construction aid.

According to the ministry the number of Saudi beneficiaries from social insurance during the past two years exceeded 798,000. It allocated more than SR11.5 billion a year to the Social Insurance Corporation.

The ministry said that the number of beneficiaries of social insurance services exceeded 700,000 cases classified in four categories — total disability, orphans, divorcees and widowed, as well as holders of transfer cards while the number of cases that gets salaries stands at 75,000.

The number of women beneficiaries who get salaries from social insurance exceeded 400,000, with SR4.6 billion, while the number of transfer card holders increased to 280,000, with salaries that exceed SR3.9 million.
