RIYADH: As part of its drive against fake products and fraud, the Ministry of Commerce and Investment (MCI) has blocked 75 websites that were involved in marketing such goods.
According to an MCI official, the suspended accounts posted approximately 36,500 advertisements for counterfeit products with registered trademarks. “Using websites and social media accounts for marketing and promoting counterfeit products is a violation with heavy penalties,” he said. By closing these accounts, the official said, the ministry is protecting consumers from being victims of fraud and deception.
The ministry has called on consumers to avoid dealing with unlicensed sites that promote counterfeit goods. The majority of these sites are unauthorized and even without trade names and fixed addresses, he said. “They use anonymous drivers to deliver these counterfeit products and not by licensed shipping or delivering agents."
