The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has seized more than 900,000 fake and imitated electric appliances in the Eastern Province for failing to comply with Saudi standards and specifications, local media said.

The ministry has also closed down four warehouses in Dammam and Ahsa for similar offenses, the media said. They confiscated 700,000 imitated electric devices and another 200,000 items found as remnants of a burnt warehouse, where workers used to clean and package fake goods prior to selling them, media sources said.

The ministry calls in individuals involved in selling counterfeit products for further investigation.

The campaigns are aimed to minimizing the sale of counterfeit and fake electric equipment, which can pose a threat to consumers’ lives, ministry officials said.
