Owners of damaged cars who have left them parked in Al-Aseel Street near Abqaiq High School or in any of the nearby neighborhoods have been warned to remove them, and some of them have responded positively, Abqaiq Mayor Ali Al-Sawat said.

The municipality, however, towed away 107 damaged cars that were not moved out, he said, adding that they will continue with the campaign in all the streets of the city till all the damaged cars are removed. “The municipality has also launched an intensive campaign to eliminate stray dogs and the campaign is still on,” said Al-Sawat.

On the issue of investments, the mayor said there are no sites belonging to the municipality where investments can be made.

“Currently, the municipality and the mayoralty are working on finding new sites which can be offered to investors for development of Abqaiq city,” he said.

Regarding public hygiene, Al-Sawat said the municipality had signed a contract to clean the city and adjacent villages. “The process of awarding the SR30 million contract is on,” he said.

The new project includes doubling the number of employees, supervisors, equipment and machinery coupled with the expansion of geographic scope of the service. He said that the contract of maintaining gardens and landscapes is in the process of being awarded and it would be worth about SR13 million.

This will contribute significantly to the completion of parks and flat lands’ maintenance that was delayed in the past due to the absence of a contract,” he said.

As for paving projects, the Abqaiq mayor said: “The first phase comprising asphalt pavement, sidewalk pavement, lighting of Abqaiq and its villages has been completed. Besides, in the second phase, 55 percent of asphalt pavement, sidewalks pavement and lighting has been completed, while 60 percent of the second phase of asphalt pavement project of the streets for the municipality in the province has been completed.”
