The Shoura Council has urged the Investigation and Public Prosecution Bureau to take legal action against individuals who attack public organizations, prominent religious scholars and government officials using the Internet and social media platforms.

The Shoura also urged security agencies to identify individuals who launch such attacks.

In a related development, a Riyadh court on Monday sentenced a Saudi to 10 years in prison for denigrating the Saudi leadership and attempting to undermine the Kingdom’s security and stability. The defendant was accused of issuing religious edicts against Saudi rulers and accusing them of being gangsters and American agents, Al-Arabiya channel said.

The man had also participated in several demonstrations aimed at creating chaos and instigating unrest in the country. He took pictures of the demonstrations and published them through websites and satellite channels. He was also aware of individuals who make bombs to throw at demonstrators.

The judge said the accused would begin serving a 10-year prison term from the time of his detention on 17/9/1433H. Five years of the 10 years were handed on the basis of Article 6 of the law pertaining to information-related crimes.
