Two men have refused to comply with a court order to support their 75-year-old father financially, saying he had abandoned them as babies.

The father had launched the legal action because he claimed he had no money and source of income. However, the sons alleged that he had left them when they were 12 months old.

He had also turned his back on their mother, providing her no support, the sons told the court. The judge said the men must support him with SR1,000 each because Islam orders children to respect and obey their parents even if they are negligent.

One of the sons told the judge that their father married twice and did not help them.

“He left us and our mother when we were a year old and never came back. We had a very difficult time and longed for his help,” he said.

In their statements to the court, the brothers said they were not disobedient but were unwilling to support their father because he was cruel and irresponsible. They believe that their mother should get the money.

“We had a tough life. Our mother arranged for our basic needs including our education and getting us married. He overlooked us even though he had a good business and was capable of supporting us with money.”

“Now years later he has lost his money and business. He does not have any children with his other wives. He only came to us when he discovered that we were earning good money,” the sons said, according to the court documents. The litigation is continuing.
