An Asian expatriate in his 20s has been arrested for impersonating a woman on social media and robbing a Gulf citizen.

Madinah police spokesman Col. Fahad bin Amer Al-Ghannam said that Al-Faisaliah police received a call from a citizen that he had been misled and robbed through social media. “Soon, an investigation team was formed to probe the matter and arrest the culprit due to the sensitive nature of the crime.” According to the police, the culprit befriended his victim by posing as a woman on social media. After winning his confidence, the culprit invited him to a spot in Madinah, saying that a driver would pick him up and bring him home for a meeting.

“When the complainant went to the location, the suspect got out of a car and robbed him of SR1,500 and his mobile phone after assaulting him.

The investigation team devised a plan to capture the suspect. The perpetrator was lured into custody and he was identified as an Asian expatriate in the twenties. He was arrested in one of Madina’s neighborhoods.

Documents pertaining to the case were finalized and the case has now been referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution in Madinah.
