A Saudi retiree in the Asir region has admitted to torturing his 13-year-old daughter to death.

His victim, Reem, died when a dangling rope on the door to which she was routinely tied with chains got caught around her neck, sources told a local daily.

The citizen, in his fifties, eventually confessed that he had used chains to tie up his three daughters, two of whom he would tie to windows.

The man had retired from one of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs departments.

The victim’s father also admitted to hiding chains in an incinerator located on the outskirts of Abha.

The social protection center in the city had received reports that the girls were routinely subjected to torture, media sources said.

The educational officer at the school where Reem was enrolled said that she had been absent from the school for nearly a year and that she and her sisters lived with their father after he divorced their mother, a non-Saudi.

The man had prevented his daughters from going to school before the end of the examination period last year and routinely criticized their behavior, she said.

“The girls were always beaten and noticeably deprived of clothing and nutrition,” she said.

An official source at the social protection center in Abha said that Reem’s two sisters are being lodged at the family protection center on the directives of the Asir governor, who has ordered the provision of social care services.

Their mother has been finally reunited with them after years of being denied the right to see her daughters.

The girls are said to be in good condition and will not be discharged from the center until their lodging is secured.
