Mohammed Mukhtar Khan was elected as president of the Bihar International Society for Welfare and Solidarity (BISWAS), a socio-welfare group of expatriate workers from the north Indian state in Riyadh, on Saturday.

Shahzad Samdani was elected the vice-president (social welfare), Mohammad Wakil Ahmed, vice-president (education), Akhtar-ul-Islam Siddiqui, general secretary and Tarique Noorul Hasan, joint secretary of BISWAS.

Intellectuals and educated class of Bihari expatriates were present at the function and expressed their full cooperation to the society in the fulfillment of its aims and objectives.

Newly elected president Khan thanked the gathering for showing their trust in him and entrusting such a huge responsibility to serve the community in the Kingdom.

There are over 200,000 people from Bihar living in Saudi Arabia.

He said: “Biharis have proved their mettle in every field due to their ability to work hard and perform duties in the right earnest.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Siddiqui praised the enterprise of the people of Bihar, and said he would make all efforts to take the community to new heights.

He said the new team will formally take charge from Thursday and will work as a team to fulfill aspirations of the community.
