Batterjee Medical College for Science and Technology in collaboration with University of Maastricht, Netherlands, conducted a “Progress Test” for medical students on Sunday with the aim of strengthening and improving the quality of education.

BMC Dean Dr. Hassan Shaibah said the Progress Test was an effective tool of evaluation and is being used by several medical schools in Canada, Europe and in Saudi Arabia. The BMC started using it with an aim to assess the end of curriculum objectives of undergraduate medical education and to evaluate the intellectual progress of students.

“All the students in the medicine program sit for the test at the same time several times during the year,” he said.

He said the test paper is scenario-based and formatted to evaluate students learning progress. “Progress of students should be assessed throughout at different levels and individually for each student,” he added.

The Progress Test also helps in comparing and benchmarking student’s levels with students at other medical institutes.

Engineer Sobhi Batterjee, chairman of the Board of Trustees, stressed that BMC was committed to meeting international standards to ensure quality education, besides fulfilling the requirements for accreditation so that it becomes a distinguished and highly-ranked medical college.
