JEDDAH: Thirty-one people from Africa have been arrested for entering the Kingdom illegally, a spokesman of the Border Guards said on Sunday.
The illegal migrants were on board a boat coming from Sudan and have entered Saudi waters within Makkah region on Saturday when they were intercepted by a maritime patrol, said Commodore Saher bin Mohammed Al-Harbis.
Al-Harbi said the illegal migrants, four of them women, included 20 Sudanese, 6 Nigerians and 5 Ethiopians.
He said “legal procedures” are being prepared against them in accordance with border security regulations.
Saudi Arabia is a favorite destination of illegal migrants, mostly from Africa.
At least 339 illegal immigrants have been stopped by Saudi border guards off the Red Sea coast since the first half of June, according to figures cited by SPA.
