JEDDAH: Abdullah bin Shaker Al-Ghalib Sharif, secretary-general of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), recently visited a home for the elderly and a center for children with special needs in Makkah with a delegation of officials and businessmen.
The aim of the visit was to highlight the needs of the elderly and children with special needs, and also to make sure that the chamber is doing its best in serving the residents of Makkah.
Al-Ghalib Sharif invited businessmen to look after charitable organizations.
He said the MCCI understands its responsibility toward society and it will sponsor a number of activities and events that involve businessmen and the MCCI. He said that the Makkah chamber seeks to activate the role of traders and businessmen in this aspect and will continue supporting the homes for the elderly and children’s centers.
He also said the MCCI is keen on providing the best support as taking care of elders and children is a matter of pride.
Abdullah Matar Al-Ghamdi, director of the social care home in Makkah said this field visit of MCCI officials and businessmen will have a positive impact on the community and encourage other members of the community to come forward and help the charitable organizations and social care homes.
He further said this visit also showed that our youths still cared for their elders and handicapped children.
The elderly in the care homes also felt that they were not forgotten, but wee still part of the community.
He explained that the Social Care home was established in 1367 AH, serving Makkah, Jeddah, Qunfudah and Laith residents. There are 70 male and 50 female elderly people under the care of the center.
The visiting hours of the center are from morning to dusk, so people can visit any time within this period.
Most of the elderly people in the home suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Sometimes they don’t even remember who they are.
