Health authorities in Taif will look afresh into the case of 10-year-old Ghadir Al-Wadi’i, whose family had filed a complaint against King Faisal Hospital in Taif, claiming physicians failed to treat their daughter after she suffered a gunshot wound on the eve of Eid Al-Fitr last year.

Ali bin Manaa Al-Wadi’i, Ghadir’s brother, said his sister was playing on the terrace of their house that night when she was wounded in the back. Initially, the family thought the wound was caused by fireworks in celebration of the holiday. When she was taken to King Faisal Hospital, physicians washed and sutured the wound, under the presumption that it was caused by fireworks, he said.

He said his sister was discharged from the hospital the same day with pain. However, after two weeks, Ghadir’s mother urged that she return to the hospital for an X-Ray, which shockingly revealed the presence of a bullet in her abdomen. The family still does not know how the bullet got into her, he said.

The family got their second shock when the doctors told them that surgery to extract the bullet was risky and that she had to live with it.
