A court in Madinah ordered Saturday the closure of the office of the Prisoners’ Welfare Committee after receiving a complaint from the owner of the building the committee operates from.

According to a committee source, the owner of the building demanded that the committee vacate the premises immediately, but the committee sought a week's time to find an alternative accommodation. The building owner rejected this.

The source said the owner then filed a complaint in court against the committee, demanding of immediate evacuation of the premises. The source said the closure of the committee’s offices will harm its charity efforts.

The committee currently is providing humanitarian in-kind and cash support to more than 50 needy families of prisoners located in Madina and nearby villages, said the source, adding that the committee has also been involved in addressing the challenges and difficulties facing those families.
