Authorities foiled two smuggling attempts of 2 kg of heroin into the Kingdom through King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Tuesday, authorities said.

The passengers were detained at customs upon arrival at the airport.

One passenger was found to be in possession of 1.5 kg of heroin, which he had hidden in one of his shoes, and the other 0.5 kg of heroin inserted inside his body, said Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, customs director at King Abdulaziz International Airport, in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

He praised the “good work of customs officers and their relentless efforts to foil such desperate attempts to smuggle drugs inside the Kingdom.”

The two smugglers were not identified.
