The Ministry of Justice has reduced waiting periods for divorce and family-related cases to between 10 days and two weeks, from three to six months in the past, local media reported Wednesday.

This includes khula, guardianship, custody and maintenance cases, Nasser Al-Awad, adviser to the Minister of Justice on community programs, was quoted as saying.

The Justice Ministry set up offices to deal exclusively with such cases at the Tanfiz Building in the Al-Maraba district in Riyadh, he said.

Al-Awad said the new offices have ensured that officials deal quickly with various family disputes. These offices have also helped to resolve disputes between family members and cut down on divorces.

He said officials and experts at these offices work closely with courts and community organizations to find amicable solutions to family problems.
