JEDDAH: The National Addiction Counseling Center has treated only eight women since it opened 18 months ago, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Drug Commission Abdulelah Al-Sharif said.
He called on women and those who wish to benefit from the advice of a specialist to contact the counseling center. The center receives between 45 and 70 calls a day from across the Kingdom, from people seeking help with issues of addiction, as well as from family members who wish to obtain advice about a family member experiencing the problem of addiction, said Al-Sharif.
The center is one of the main pillars for helping families deal with members suffering from addiction, which poses a threat to both the family and community.
He said the center provides full confidentiality when providing treatment to patients, noting that workers at the center are fully aware of the culture of the community and thus are reliable sources of help and advice.
The center deals with cases of addiction and drug abuse via immediate intervention, providing advice based on individual circumstances, and offering medical, psychological and social services and guidance.
A group of specialists and consultants in psychiatry and addiction medicine provide advice and guidance upon receipt of requests from parents, wives, relatives and employees, ensuring full confidentiality and application of appropriate interventions.
