The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh celebrated the 28th anniversary of the historic EDSA People Power Revolution on Tuesday under the theme “EDSA 28: Kapit- Bisig Tungo sa Pagbangon.”

Talking on the occasion, Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago highlighted the need, especially among the Filipino youth who were not born when the revolution took place, to always remember the spirit of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) and the valuable lessons it taught the Filipino.

Vice Consul Redentor Genotiva gave the welcome remarks while Minister and Consul General Louis Alferez read the official message of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino lll. Administrative Officer Mohamad Taha Guinomla spoke about his own experience at the time of the revolution when he was still working for the Department of Budget and Management.

The winners in the essay writing contest held in connection with the celebration were also announced. There were 63 entries.

Winners in the professionals category included Nelva Basabe Francial (teacher), 1st prize; Ma. Angelica Gloria Martinez (teacher), 2nd prize and Florante Catanus, (journalist), 3rd prize.

Winners in the student category were Nazario Emil S. Lintag, Jr. (Future Generation International School), 1st prize; Alou D. Sevilla (Palm Crest Int. School), 2nd prize, and Bien Lope Jayag, Riyadh International School, 3rd prize.
