JEDDAH: People who have bought or wishing to buy new SIMs and those wanting to opt for another telecom firm and transfer their numbers are facing a harrowing time because the fingerprinting system is down.
The employees at service providers’ offices are also witnessing a constant stream of clients seeking to know when the problem will be solved. But nobody knows when the snag will be fixed.
“Those who have registered their fingerprints through Absher need not register it again for their phones because the same can be done through this system within a matter of a few minutes,” a citizen told Arab News.
Employees of service providers reportedly told their customers that they cannot issue new SIMs or transfer their numbers to another operator due to a malfunction which requires intervention of the Communication and Information Technology Commission.
Mohamed Al-Ghamdi, an affected customer, said he had obtained a SIM card last Wednesday, but he is unable to use it.
