A fire gutted a furniture warehouse in Dahban, north of Jeddah, on Saturday morning.

“Civil Defense teams sent 13 fire brigades immediately to the scene and thankfully found no injuries,” said Waleed Abu Shanab, Civil Defense acting spokesman. “Members of the Red Crescent and security patrols were also involved in extinguishing the fire.”

“Many industrial factories in Saudi Arabia still fail to implement safety and security standards to ensure that their buildings are fireproof,” said Gen. Saeed Sarhan, Civil Defense spokesman in Makkah. “Many of these factories also fail to maintain their air-conditioning networks and electricity cables.”

Such factors have contributed to the rise in fire-related incidents, according to safety and security experts. “We demand that factories and warehouse buildings apply safety standards to avert potential tragedies,” he said.
