JEDDAH: The number of attempts made to smuggle explosives into the Kingdom has increased fivefold during the last few years. Though the majority of these attempts were foiled by Saudi Customs, this increase has raised questions about who is behind these attempts that target the Kingdom.
In recent years, there has been a 570 percent increase in such attempts.
Gen. Ali Al-Tamimi, deputy chairman of the committee of security affairs in the Shoura Council, said that the Kingdom was facing an open war with neighboring countries.
He pointed toward the involvement of the Iranian regime which has been accused of feeding terrorism and targeting stable countries. The stability in the Kingdom and its political strength at the international level has caused Iran to display its aggression against Saudi Arabia with the intention of disturbing its peace and creating disunity.
Gen. Al-Tamimi said that there are around 8 million profiles on Twitter that target the Kingdom through their inflammatory tweets. He added that this started after the Iranian regime tried and failed to harm the Kingdom, causing Tehran to hire agents to target the Kingdom through provocative tweets.
He said that the peace and stability of the Kingdom and its popularity among Arab countries has encouraged many of its opponents to carry out their terrible goals out of spite. As such, scholars, members of Shoura Council, media personalities and eminent social personalities in the Kingdom are also being targeted by those who wish to implant devious thought patterns into their minds.
