Gambian President Yahya Abdulaziz Jammeh wrapped up his five-day long visit to the Kingdom on Saturday, by pledging to reinforce bilateral ties between the two countries.

“The president, who arrived here on Monday afternoon on a four-day trip to the Kingdom, returned yesterday as he has extended his official trip,” Gambian Ambassador Omar Gabriel Saleh told Arab News on Sunday.

Saleh described the visit as “positive and fruitful”, adding that it would serve to further enhance bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, the Gambian president expressed his pleasure at visiting the Kingdom and meeting with the Saudi leadership.

During the weeklong official trip, Jammeh met Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, and discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest. The president also asserted his country’s willingness to work with the Kingdom as sister countries.

The two leaders also discussed the latest developments at the regional and international arenas during the high powered meeting, which was also attended by Prince Saud Al-Faisal, minister of foreign affairs, and Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, second deputy premier.

Jammeh met with high officials from the Saudi Fund for Development and visited Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to discuss ways and means to bolster bilateral trade and commerce and support the economic development of Gambia, especially in the field of infrastructure.

The Gambian president, accompanied by his delegation and his first lady, also paid a visit to the National Museum at King Abdul Aziz Historic Center in Riyadh and listened to a detailed explanation on its exhibits, which highlight the history of the Kingdom.

Jammeh presented a painting to the museum and the museum authority presented a commemorative gift to him.

The president’s trip included a visit to Madinah, where he paid a visit to the Prophet’s Mosque and performed prayers, the ambassador told Arab News.
