A Border Guard soldier was killed and another injured during an exchange of fire with unidentified gunmen at a border location between the Kingdom and Yemen on Monday.

“Muhammad Al-Khairani, a soldier, was killed in a heavy exchange of fire at Humr in the Jazan province near Dair at 2 a.m. on Monday. The fire came from Yemeni territory,” a security spokesman from the Interior Ministry said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.

“Muhammad Al-Odhiqi, another solider, was injured in the incident and was shifted to a local hospital,” he said. “Al-Khairani is to be considered a martyr for dying in the line of duty.”

Saudi security officials are investigating the incident in collaboration with Yemeni authorities, he said.
