The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has found one of its members guilty of boarding a bus transporting female students in Abha.

Awad Al-Asmari, Haia spokesman for the Asir region, confirmed Friday that the man was a Haia member, and had boarded the bus on his own initiative.

Al-Asmari said a report has been sent to the Asir governor for action to be taken against the man.

The bus had been transporting female students from King Khaled University in Abha.

Meanwhile, the Haia is still investigating a claim that another member attacked and injured an Afghan woman in Makkah, even though the woman has since withdrawn charges against him.

A local newspaper reported Friday that the Haia member, while on a field inspection tour before the evening prayer earlier this week, attacked the woman in a Makkah park.

The attack caused bleeding from her forehead, and she had to be hospitalized for a week, the report said. The newspaper said that it has a copy of the woman's medical report.

The Haia officer has denied the allegations, claiming that he merely reminded her verbally of the prayer time and that she fell off a ride and injured herself.

A Haia committee investigating the incident stated that the member in question suffered from bouts of “extreme rage,” which had embarrassed him and his colleagues in public, said the newspaper.

After mediation, the woman and her father, who works at a restaurant in the neighborhood, withdrew charges filed with the police. However, the Haia said it will continue investigating the incident.

The officer would either be moved to another area, or completely removed from field duties, the report quoted a Haia spokesman as saying.

Sheikh Abdullateef Al-Asheikh, the Haia chief, had ordered the investigations into the two incidents.
