The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, or Haia, has confirmed the events recorded in a video that is now circulating in the social media, in which three members of the Haia appear to be forcibly removing 21 female students off a bus near the Women’s University in Taif.

The Haia said in a statement that the events are isolated and that the actions of three of its members do not represent the commission's views and those of its employees. In a statement, the Haia said the three men will face the consequences of their actions, and that two of them have been transferred to Najran, while the third has been transferred to Jazan.

Last week, an investigation was launched into the incident on orders of Haia President Abdullatif Al-Asheikh.

The Haia confirmed that one committee was formed to investigate all aspects of the case, while another committee was formed to verify the findings to ensure accuracy.

“Investigations revealed that the clip is linked to an incident that occurred near the Women’s University in Taif on the morning of 2-24-1436 AH, and those involved are linked to the branch of the Haia in Hawiye,” read the statement.

The statement also said that “the committee received conflicting statements from Haia members during interrogation. It appears that the members were trying to hide facts and lied to mislead the investigation.”

The Haia issued an apology to the students and their families.
