A member of the Kingdom’s religious police (Haia) is being investigated for allegedly boarding a bus transporting female students from King Khalid University in Abha, while another member is being probed for injuring a girl on her head at a public park in Makkah, said Abdullatif Al-Asheikh, president of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

“The president had issued directives to Makkah’s branch manager to investigate the incidents and submit their findings within 24 hours,” said the Haia spokesman for the Makkah region.

“The president of the commission is keen on uncovering the truth behind these two allegations, especially the bus incident,” said Awad Al-Asmari, Haia spokesman for the Asir region.

Salha Al-Maymon, a female student on board the bus, said students were surprised when a Haia member boarded the bus.

“There is a strong presence of Haia members at the doors of the university campus as students exit the premises every day,” she said.
