Hail University has installed vehicle-tracking systems on 131 buses transporting female students.

A special control room has been set up for university administration personnel to determine the location of vehicles, receive maintenance notices, and monitor if vehicles exceed the speed limit.

Ahmed bin Mehgaa Al-Shambari, vice president of the university, said the plan is to ensure the safety of the women students especially if vehicles break down or there are health and other emergencies.

He said Khalil bin Ibrahim Al-Ibrahim, the university’s president, wanted to install the tracking devices in the women’s buses first.

All students and bus drivers have the contact information of the control room and security teams, he said.

Al-Shambari said the university has also installed the tracking system in 62 other vehicles catering to management, operations and maintenance departments, and 17 vehicles from the department of safety and security.

The university is currently installing devices in its remaining service vehicles, and those from the department of engineering.
