The Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) organized a students’ health screening program at the premises of the Pakistani International School in Jeddah on Thursday.
Seven doctors participated in the program, performing medical check-ups on around 300 students.
Dr. Arshad Qasami, eye specialist; Dr. Moh.Tahir Nadeem, pediatric neurologist; Dr. Mohammed Arshad Alvi, assistant consultant pediatrician; Dr. Irfan Abra, consultant pediatrician; Dr, Noman Ahmed, consultant pediatrician; Dr. Atlaullah Khan, assistant consultant pediatrician; Dr. Asim Ali, assistant consultant, volunteered their services to the society.
Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman, president of PWS, told Arab News that the society has been organizing the program for the past five years, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of regular medical screening for children.
He noted that many children suffer health problems that are undetected by their parents, and these become obstacles to their academic performance.
“Our team of doctors check-up on the wellbeing of students by screening their eye sight, hearing abilities, weight, blood pressure, dental hygiene, and ask the students about their food intake as well as their physical and mental activities. The doctors also ask about the student’s family medical history,” he explained.
He elaborated that the doctors submit a report about each student, which is sent to the parents. Students with health problems are requested to visit the free medical camp, which is established every month at the consulate for further medical care.
He urged parents to monitor their children’s growth and consult their family doctor if they notice any irregularities.
Rahman thanked the participating doctors, PWS members and teachers for executing the event and extended his appreciation to the school management for allowing the society to conduct the program.
PWS members Mohammed Khalid Janjua; Mohammed Talha; Fawzia Khan; Moahmmed Nawaz Janjua and Mohammed Abdulsattar were also present to help the doctors.
