RIYADH: The government’s housing project is progressing well as is evident from a recent survey revealing that 56 percent of Saudis in Riyadh and 46 percent across the Kingdom own homes.
The study, conducted by the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh (HCDA), showed that the average annual income of a Saudi individual worker in the capital rose by 35 percent since 1425 AH, that is SR135,000 (11,250 per month) until now. It also revealed that the average size of Saudi family is 5.7 individuals.
The analysis showed that the population in the Kingdom has risen 24 percent in the same period, that is, 31.52 million by the end of 2015, compared to about 25.4 million by the end of 2009.
The total workforce in the capital has been put at 2.3 million, higher by 77 percent than 1425 AH, when it was 1.3 million employees. The number of Saudi employees in Riyadh has reached 993,000, which is 44 percent of the total workforce. Non-Saudis make up 56 percent (1.3 million). The rate of employment in the government sector has increased by 35 percent as against 65 percent in the private sector, the survey found.
The illiteracy rate in Riyadh dropped to 4 percent since 1425 AH, while the number of married couples has increased by 48 percent of the total Saudi population aged 15 years and above, while the ratio is 66 percent among non-Saudis in the city.
