RIYADH: The Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) received 2,151 complaints last year of which, Saudi citizens lodged 1,588 complaints (73.8 percent) compared to 563 complaints (26.2 percent) by foreigners.
The criminal complaints received by the HRC stood at 485, or 22.5 percent of the total complaints where Riyadh Region topped other regions at 183 complaints, followed by Makkah (98) and Asir (95).
The number of complaints related to “identity and nationality” reached 280, or 13 percent of the total complaints. Riyadh captured the highest portion of these complaints at 87 complaints, followed by Makkah (54) and the eastern region (30).
The number of complaints related to “labor” stood at 168, or 7.8 percent of the overall complaints. Once again, Riyadh registered the highest portion of complaints at 29 complaints, followed by Makkah (57) and the eastern region (19).
Regarding complaints that have relevance to “social care,” they stood at 120, or 5.6 percent of the total complaints, where Riyadh registered 40 complaints, followed by Makkah (28) and the eastern region at 13 complaints.
On the other hand, complaints related to “health” reached 103 complaints, or 4.8 percent of the total complaints. Riyadh region had the highest portion at 31 complaints, followed by Makkah (22) and the eastern region (14).
The HRC managed to settle 1,411 complaints, or 65.6 percent of the total complaints it received, while pending complaints reached 740, or 34.4 percent of the total complaints, the HRC report said.
