The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has called upon municipal authorities in all cities of the Kingdom to fix and improve the conditions in many neighborhoods to preserve the dignity of citizens and residents.

Dr. Mufleh Al-Qahtani, chairman of NSHR, told a local newspaper that “it is imperative that we find ways to transform the dilapidated neighborhoods into attractive residential areas.”

“Our cities are witnessing continuous development and growth, while some neighborhoods have been ignored and left on their own. This is being negatively reflected on these areas,” he said.

He explained that these underprivileged neighborhoods have every right to be taken care of. “We are being unfair to them. Leaving them like this without doing anything risks exposing them to adverse health and social problems. This could lead to people contracting serious illnesses,” he said.

“Most of these neighborhoods fall within the jurisdiction of large cities, but the civic authorities have neglected them,” he added.
