Tarahum, a prisoner welfare committee in Makkah, recently employed 35 of its female members to work as security guards at the Shumaisi deportation center in Makkah.

Mohammad Al-Zahrani, executive director of a security firm that supervises public security at the Shumaisi deportation center, said that there are currently 1,245 men and 555 women employed at its facilities.

Yahya Al-Kinani, chairman of Tarahum, told a local daily that the committee is in the process of appointing another 100 of its members as security guards pending training.

“Members of this welfare initiative come from prisoners’ families and they have the capabilities to undertake this task. Some of them have higher degrees and the committee is working to improve their qualifications.
