The Hyderabad Association (HA) has once again taken the initiative to reuse old books and distribute them among students of the current academic year. The association collected the used books from students of the previous year and redistributed them among students who have enrolled this year. Last year’s response to this initiative was a motivation to take up the task again more rigorously.

Mohammed Fayazuddin, convenor of the initiative, former member of IISD (International Indian School, Dammam) for two terms, an engineer by profession and vice president of school affairs in the association, has worked untiringly with his team of dedicated members, Abdul Waheed, Dr. Hai Khan, Mir Hyder Ali, M. Irfanuddin, Abdul Rauf, Shuja Sheriff, Mohammed Ismail and a number of student volunteers to accomplish this project.

Fayazuddin thanked the students, teachers and parents for their contribution and said that the collection stood at more than 6,000 books for the various standards from kindergarten upwards. He further added that this noble gesture had generated 100 sets of books which were distributed to students of the current academic year.

Fayaz believes that reusing books is the best answer to environmental problems. “Instead of throwing them away, give them to students who can use them,” he said. He added, “This will not only save paper but also our valuable natural resources.”

He explained that, “According to a survey, 60 percent of our landfill problems are due directly to the paper industry in the USA. People throw waste paper into landfills or have it incinerated at a terrific cost to the environment and our health.”

HA President Mirza Zaheer Baig encouraged the community to come forward and be a part of the noble cause. He also appreciated the efforts of the HA team.
