The Japanese Embassy held a cultural event called “Japan Day 4” on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Japanese Ambassador Shigeru Endo said: “Literature shows the unique history and spiritual background of each culture and attempts to identify universal values. Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement) represents one of the graceful and sensitive aspects of Japanese culture by showing how to bring together nature and human being. I hope the Saudi people will enjoy them.”

Karam Khalil, dean of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, delivered a lecture. He spoke about the history and transformation of Japanese literature, and discussed Japanese society with Faris Shihab, an associate professor of Japanese language at King Saud University.

In the ikebana demonstration, Tenkei Nomura, a Japanese artist residing in France, used flowers and branches from the local market and wadi and presented beautiful works.

The Japanese film “Éclair” was screened during the event. It depicted the life of orphans in Japan after World War ll.
