Indonesia is working to enhance bilateral relations with the Kingdom across multiple sectors in a bid to protect the interests of both countries, said A. M. Fachir, Indonesian ambassador to the Kingdom.

Fachir, who was addressing the Indonesian community in Jeddah on Friday night, urged nationals working in the Western Province to respect local laws and emphasized the importance of pursuing proper legal channels to put forth grievances.

“You are bound by orders and regulations as a guest of this country,” he said. “You must therefore abide by local laws, customs and traditions. Pilgrims are guests of God and must act as such,” he said.

Fachir also addressed employees of the Indonesian Haj mission, the largest in the world. “The mission’s employees should also consider themselves as God’s servants to enhance productivity,” he said.

“Our embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah are facing challenges in securing protection and other services for Indonesian nationals all over the Kingdom,” he said.

The envoy stressed the principle of unity in overcoming obstacles.

“We are tasked with promoting a sense of togetherness,” he said. “You have all come to the Kingdom because you all have a mission to accomplish. Those of you who have been fortunate enough in attaining success should empower their compatriots to help realize their dreams.”

Fachir also praised the enthusiasm of Indonesian students pursuing higher education at Saudi institutions and congratulated local Indonesian expatriate students studying at the Indonesian International School in Jeddah. Different cultural programs were presented by the school’s students during the gathering.
