An Indonesian worker was crushed to death by a steel structure at the ongoing railway station project in Makkah.

The worker was at the site’s basement level when a steel structure fell on him, killing him instantly.

Civil Defense teams rushed to the spot to extract the worker’s body, Civil Defense spokesman Maj. Salah Olayani said.

Police is investigating the case, and the body has been shifted to King Faisal Hospital in Shisha.

A Pakistani construction worker involved in excavation work was crushed to death in similar circumstances on Monday in Aqiq near Baha. The worker was buried under a pile of soil and pipes.

Commenting on his death, a Civil Defense official said, “As the entire stretch was filled with soil and other matter, our team faced difficulty in finding the body. We were eventually able to extract the body from under the rubble.”

The victim was working at a contracting firm that installs water pipelines in the Aqiq region.

His body was shifted to Aqiq hospital and police have halted the project to investigate the cause of death.
